Life just seems to be getting more and more complicated, doesn't it?

We handed out mini packages of animal crackers to our little trick-or-treaters. I was happy with that, and so were they.

I remember visiting my dentist each year for trick-or-treating and getting a toothbrush. We were delighted at this out-of-the-ordinary gift, and my mom was happy not to see more candy!

Hi Whymommy, thanks for dropping by! Animal crackers are a great idea. I love them anyway. They're so retro...remind me of my own childhood. -- Lynn

I am surprised to see that parents are giving plastic toys this year. We didn't get any but we certainly got our fair share of candy. One interesting item my daughter got in her treat bag was a very small tube of toothpaste. She was actually thrilled by this and oddly enough it was her favorite item. Our neighbor, who is a dentist, was giving these small treasures out. Creative idea I think. I'm sorry to say that we handed out all of my favorite unhealthy candies. Well once a year I guess. But I really appreciate your ideas to move away from mindless crap.

Keep up the good work

Sue - Thanks so much for your comments. I'm glad to hear that you didn't get any CPP this year. The toothpaste is a useful item - that's creative. Actually, today I found some Divine Chocolate fair trade chocolate coins in the trick-or-treat bag. Lucklly, there were three coins so DH and I got to taste them and they were delicious! -- Lynn

I wonder if the CPC is a result of parents wanting to spare children's teeth and bodies from sugars such as high fructose corn syrup. Many parents have been bemoaning the lack of choices. It's surprising, with all the uproar about lead-contaminated CPC from China, that parents wouldn't worry about handing out treats possibly containing lead.

Maybe there will be better choices next year.

Beth - That could certainly be, although I saw people giving out both Cheap Plastic Crap as well as halloween candy. I'm with you ...I also hope that by next year, we've got better choices. I believe that will be the case - I think consumers are demanding it and marketers are realizing there' s a "green gold rush." Thanks for your comments! -- Lynn
