Mass marketed cosmetics can never truly be green because of all the energy it takes to manufacture, store and distribute them. Right here in your backyard, Lynn, we have a green mineral makeup and natural skincare company. The entire line is made with Certified Organic and natural ingredients, ranked 0-2 in the EWG Skin Deep database. Zosimos Botanicals. Certified by Green America and GenGreen. Very low carbon emissions to deliver, 100% wind powered workshop. Not a reseller, these are our own recipes, I'm the owner, a mom of two. Al the other Staffers are also moms. It's a home based business and we ranked in the Top 10 Greenest by Startup Nation last year. We're competing again. At the DC Green Festival, you can find me giving a demo on making Organic lip balm Oct. 10th. We will also be giving green makeovers with the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics on Oct. 11th in the Teen Pavilion. Would love to meet you!

I just wrote a post about healthy eating for baby. I am a big fan of organic food and fresh food. Fresh foods are always the best, no matter vegetables, fruits, or meat. Fresh foods also provide plenty of fiber, vitamins and minerals needed by both mothers and babies. While processed foods often contain added saturated fat, sodium, sugars, artificial colors or other chemical additives.

My daughter is almost 3 years old, and I am proud to say that jarred baby food made up about 5% of her early diet.

I made her baby food from scratch and added little flourishes- like pureed spinach with goats milk yogourt, and pureed eggplant with onion and garlic.

But I look at the portions and how 10 for 7 dollars is a "good deal" but 7 dollars was enough for me to make over 20 portions. I always froze them and made enough for the week. The times I did get jarred was from the co-op to check if Maerin had food allergies. I saved the jars but when I went places, I took a cube of the frozen food and popped it in the jar. It would usually defrost less than an hour.

The thing about organic and going green is that it's not just about buying these things, it's about leaving less of an imprint and less waste.

It would take me an hour or less to make her food for the entire week.

Thanks for stopping by, Lindsey! Wow! Your baby food recipes sound delicious. I agree that making food is the best way to go, but for some Moms (yours truly included), just can't get it together to do that. There's enough to do with a baby that just one more thing can seem like too much. I bought the baby food cubes and the "Super Baby Food" book and planned to make the cubes, but rarely did it. The good news is that for Moms like me there is another option now that is the next best thing to home made - frozen organic baby food. I met a woman through this blog who started her own company - Mom Made Foods - making frozen organic baby food. See the interview with her under "most popular posts." And the amazing thing about the blogosphere? Now I'm working for her as a marketing consultant! :) -- Lynn

Once again, the confusion of marketing versus regulation rears its ugly head. From what I understand, the term "organic" isn't regulated for non-food. That's marketing. It's only THIS MONTH that a seal which applies to non-food items has been created: The Natural Products Association Natural Standard for Personal Care Products

This sets the standard for the term Natural and stipulates:
    *
Product must be made up of at least 95 percent truly natural ingredients or ingredients that are derived from natural sources
    *
No ingredients with any potential suspected human health risks
    *
No processes that significantly or adversely alter the purity/effect of the natural ingredients
    *
Ingredients that come from a purposeful, renewable/plentiful source found in nature (flora, fauna, mineral)
    *
Processes that are minimal and don't use synthetic/harsh chemicals or otherwise dilute purity
    *
Non-natural ingredients only when viable natural alternative ingredient are unavailable and only when there are absolutely no suspected potential human health risks

Bread is my downfall toooooooooo I love it! Specially dipping it in olive oil and garlic or cinnamon butter YUMMMMMMMMMMMM oh my word I need to stop lol Well, since starting my eating regiment 5 weeks ago I guess it is now, I haven't cheated but this program does allow me to have bread or treats during my dinner hour so i am definitely not deprived.

Thanks for the tip about the sandwiches! People tend to think Whole Foods and organics in general are more expensive and lack coupons or go on sale but the truth is they do it's just takes more effort to catch the sales and find the coupons.

Glad you found it helpful! Well, they are *more* expensive...that's why i go crazy looking for deals! Hence, OrganicMania! -- Lynn
