After a trip to Target today, I realized I’m not the only one still shopping for eco-friendly back to school supplies! This year I got off a lot easier than last year – “just $50!,” but I wasn’t stocking up on backpacks or lunch boxes because we’re reusing last year’s, as I blogged here.
I don’t normally do giveaways – they take time and I’d rather do other things with my time, frankly! But after blogging about “How to Pack a Cheap and Easy Waste Free Lunch”, the “Challenges of Going Green in the Schools” and my son’s Camp Eco-Challenge, I realized that purchasing a “waste-free lunch system” is just one more expense that many would rather avoid. So when Citizen Pip and Kids Konserve reached out to me, I figured what the heck, let’s give a giveaway and a discount code a go!
So if you are in need of a lead-free, PVC-free, phthalate-free, and BPA-free waste-free lunch box that’s pretty darn cute, you may be in luck! Just leave a comment here telling me you’d like to win Citizen Pip’s waste-free lunch system, and share your best tip for a healthy lunch treat to pack for the kids. A winner will be randomly selected by midnight Saturday, August 29th and I’ll post the winner’s name here at OrganicMania.
And if that’s not right up your alley, you can get 15% off the cost of any Kids Konserve waste-free reusable lunch kits and food-grade stainless steel containers by using coupon code OrganicMania. (Valid until 9/30/09). Check it out here.
Kellie of Greenhab: The Browns Go Green wrote a great review of both the Kids Konserve and the Citizen Pip systems – so you can figure out which you’d prefer.
Since I haven’t seen either system, here’s the deal: if you win, promise that you’ll send me an email or leave a comment with your thoughts – your own mini-review!
And if you just want to re-use last year’s box but need more containers, because of course those darn lids always get lost? Guess what? I found the Gerber ones I use on sale today at the Rockville, Maryland Target – four for $4.71!
What are you doing for a healthy and waste-free lunch this year? Let’s make every day waste-free lunch day, not just once a week! I was shocked by a statistic Kids Konserve shared with me – “the amount of trash produced by one child’s lunch alone creates 67 pounds of landfill waste in a school year!”

I would love to win Citizen Pip’s waste-free lunch system! Our best tip for a healthy lunch treat to pack for our daughter is ‘ants on a log’ which is organic peanut butter on celery topped with raisins. Great source of protein and potassium.
I would love to win a Citizen Pip’s waste-free lunch system
Kids love the granola bars, especially the ones with yogurt and caramel!

I’d love to to win Citizen Pip’s waste-free lunch system for myself because I just recently started school again wheeeeeee and I love fresh fruit and cheese slices!
Kayley, Kindra, Desi, Jen, Candice – Wow! That was quick with all those comments! Glad you are so psyched about this! Great suggestions, esp. the cookie cutter! I’ll have to try that! My problem with fruit sometimes is that it turns brownish when cut, and my kids love it cut up. I just tried Ants on a Log with my 7-year-old this week, as a matter of fact, but no dice! Any good recipes for trail mix? Would love to hear what you’re doing! We get into ruts with grapes, carrots, cheese and edaname. I’m always trying to get more produce in there!
I would LOVE to win Citizen Pip’s waste-free lunch system! I enjoy planning out lunches ahead of time, being creative with the ‘treats’. and making everything myself, usually without any pre-made/pre-packaged food. Lots of colours, tastes and textures!
I would love the win it! We love to pack homemade hummus with whatever veggies we have cut up into little pieces for dipping!
This safe non-toxic and condensed set is perfect! I would love to win the Citizen Pip’s waste free lunch system. This way I won’t have to buy anything in the years to come. It can follow the kids through all the grades.
I love Peter Rabbit’s 100% organic fruit snack pouches. They are healthy and taste great. I order them in bulk from Amazon and save 50 cents per pouch.
I’d like to win a Citizen Pip’s waste-free lunch system! I like to add a little organic “dippins” (that’s what we call ranch dressing) to go along with the the vegetables for a little treat

I’d love to win Citizen Pip’s Waste Free lunch system. My son loves curly pasta with red sauce – which I make loaded with sauteed carrots and zucchini (leftovers). He prefers it room temperature so I don’t have to keep it steaming hot. I love the cookie cutter idea too!
Ooohh I was just looking at the Citizen Pip the other day! I would love to win it, with the thermos I could pack up something leftover from dinner and keep it warm until my son eats lunch.
And Lynne, my son doesn’t enjoy the ants on a log either. He’s not a fan of celery so he just ate the raisins and peanut butter off!

I would love to win this for my 13 year old stepson. He is one of the few kids his age that doesn’t mind taking a packed lunch. We like to put in some homemade fruit salad with a few marshmallows thrown in!
Fruit salad with marshallows! Wow! There’s a new idea.
And it seems like dips are the trick with veggies. I’ve heard that …. I need to get on the stick!
Thanks for all your comments! — Lynn
I pack a lunch every day for my son and my husband (who is a highschool teacher).
I would love the Citizen Pip’s waste-free lunch system. My son is always losing parts of our waste-free lunch, including but not limited to cloth napkins, refilable thermos, and containers in our former system. *sigh*
We need all of the help we can get or it will cost me a fortune to stay green! Gah!
I just made home made granola bars and yogurt this week. Also I try to cook things in a small corning ware dish when I have a little extra at dinner so that my hubs can take it in his lunch box and reheat at school. We never never buy microwave meals and strive to be waste free.
Although today I had to send my son w/ milk money since he lost his thermos yesterday.
I would love to win Citizen Pip’s waste-free lunch system!!
My way of adding a healthy treat to my kiddos lunch box is stopping by the local farmers market after school every day and letting my son choose the fruits and vegetables for the following days lunch. We try to come up with creative and fun combination. Getting him involved and letting him help pack it all into his lunchbox is a good way to teach him about being waste free and at the same time making him feel like it’s his choice to eat healthy!
Vicki, I love the idea of having your son choose his produce from the farmer’s market! That’s a great idea. And Can Can, you’ll have to post your home made granola recipe! Would love to know how you are making it. I still buy granola in the bulk bins, but maybe I should re-evaluate! — Lynn
I would love to win the Citizen Pip waste free lunch system! I like to pack homemade individual pizzas, I make a big batch (with whole wheat dough)and cook them until they are almost done. Then I freeze them. I cook one in the morning before school and pack it in my daughter’s lunch box. She loves it!
It would be great to win a lunch kit! I really like this round-up of lunch box snacks:

I think it would be great to win the Citizen Kip lunch system-I am trying to make more positive choices in life, and going green is one of them. A healthy snack I do for my daughter is make a trail mix of different types of dried fruits and almonds, it is tasty and she really loves the different mix of ingredients.
I have been doing the waste free lunches every day for over a year now so we could really use a new one. We are a Celiac family. My DD’s favorite lunch to take is hummus and rice crackers.
I would love to win the lunch system because it would be great for my 8 year old son. Thanks.

i like to cut up carrots and cucumbers and also include grape tomoatoes. kids have soooo much fun with those! i would love to win this!
ooooh, what a fun giveaway! We’ve been trying to figure out the best way to pack our 15 month olds lunch the couple of days a week she’s away from home. This would be perfect! Our little one enjoys grapes, applesauce, and tomatoes!
.-= Mandy´s last blog ..Ah, Anne Lamott – gotta love her! =-.
I would be ecstatic to win Citizen Pip’s Waste Free Lunch System. My kids new school requires the students to bring a waste free lunch.
Our tip is to get the kids involved. It’s easier to make sure my kids eat healthy when I give them a group of health options to choose from. This school year I’ve made a list of items and my kids will circle what they want to see in their lunch for the week. My daughter’s favorite is cucumbers and ranch.

Lynn,
I never thought about using the little snack cups for lunches! Great idea! I’ll head off to my Target today!
